Introduction

The gorge of Samaria is the biggest one in Europe. It starts from the feet of the White Mountains and it ends up to the Libyan sea at Agia Roumeli village. Its’ length is 17km. The gorge and the area surrounding it contain unique species of flora and fauna and in the gorge you will find natural springs with drinking crystal clear cold water. Also, there you can see the famous Cretan Wild Goat (Capra aegagrus creticus) or Kri Kri.

Introduction

The beach of Elafonisi is located in the south west of Crete approximately 75 km from Chania and 62 km from Maleme village. The sand is pink and the water is shallow and cold. The pink colour of the sand comes from the thousands of sea shells thrashed into small pieces during the passage of the year. Across the beach it is the Elafonisi island where you can walk to it through the water. The area is protected from Natura program and it is not allowed to take sand with you when you leave the place.

The Place

The island of Gramvousa and Balos lagoon are at the North West part of Crete. Gramvousa Island or the "Pirates Island" as many people call it has been the center of pirate operations on the sea passage between Gramvousa and antikythira island. On the top of the island at 137m high there is a castle built in 1579 during the Venetian era. The view from the top is remarkable.

The area of Knossos and the Palace

The archaeological area of Knossos is referred to the capital city of the Minoan civilization (3000 - 1450 bc) and to the palace of Minoas King. The area of Knossos is 6km southern of Heraklion town. There, you can see the remains of the Minoa's Palace. The palace alone was almost an entire town, beside the king's chamber and the outdoors spa facilities there were also guesthouses, food storages, banquet halls and more. From architectural and artistic aspect the Minoa Palace is something unique in the entire world.
